Midi Ring Love

Although midi rings have been a trend that has been around for what feels like forever, I feel that this is a look that isn’t going to be going anywhere for quite a while yet. I’ve always been a daily wearer of a ring of some sort, whether a simple gold band or an oversized statement ring, and I can’t help but feel almost naked without one on my hand.

When I came across the midi ring I was a bit unsure of them. I considered buying a few when on a shopping trip with one of my close friends, but when she saw me pick one up she quickly turned her nose up at it, putting me off a bit. However, she wasn’t going to be the one wearing them was she?! So days later I went back to the shop and made my purchase, not looking back.

I think midi rings look pretty darn cool. Although I’m still a fan of just wearing a simple, normal sized ring on a daily basis, I feel like midi rings are a nice addition to dress up your accessory choice a bit. I see midi rings as a modern take on the classic ring, and really add a different edgy look to your jewellery. I’m personally a big fan of this style and simply can’t get enough of them! My collection still remains quite small, but I definitely plan on expanding it in the near future.

DIY | Distressed Jean

In recent months I’ve really noticed an influx of ripped/distressed jeans coming into high street stores. As much as I love my classic plain jean, I’ve been really enjoying this new look, and I think paired with the right top etc. a really cool look can be made. And although I’ve been very tempted to set foot onto the high street and look for a pair, I recently came across a pair of old grey jeans that I haven’t worn in a very long time, so decided to have a go at creating my own.

A lot of people make the mistake of just cutting a slit into the denim and hoping for the best. Even though this will create the rip in the jean that you’re looking for, it will literally just look like you’ve got your scissors out and accidentally cut into your trousers. It won’t look great. I actually did use scissors and cut across my jeans, but I instead made two cuts close to each other, and with tweezers pulled out the vertical strings of jean in the section between the two cuts, creating this more distressed look. After doing this I got a bit of sandpaper and rubbed down all of the edges around the cut, to create this more intentional, shop-bought look.

I wouldn’t recommend doing this to a new pair of jeans or ones that are well loved. Trends come and go but a solid pair of jeans will always remain a wardrobe staple. I would do it on an older pair of jeans, like I did, meaning that something I was getting zero wear out of will now be in frequent use in my wardrobe.

Keen on Kimonos

Something I’ve really noticed bombarding high street stores at the moment is the kimono. If you set foot into a New Look you’ll probably see 10 of them within your first minute in the shop. I’m not complaining about this though, I’m a big fan of this new trend. I think they’re pretty versatile pieces, and can create a cute indie daytime look or even a more sophisticated evening outfit.

I own two kimonos, one I bought quite a few months ago (I’d like to think that makes me a fashion leader, not a follower.. a girl can dream with these things right?) and one I bought more recently when I saw the influx of them in the shops and simply couldn’t resist another with the amount I wore my first one. I think they provide a nice alternative to the cardigan, and I personally find them more flattering in nature than your bog standard cardigan.

The first I bought was a bolder, deep red pattern, and I find this dresses up a plainer outfit nicely, the second I bought is a more girly pattern, with the floral design and tassels at the bottom adding a bit of something different to it. Both of the kimonos I own are from New Look, I can’t remember the price of the first one I bought (oops) but my more recent purchase was only £24.99, but a bit less for those of us who are lucky enough to still get their 10% student discount, and with the amount I’ve been wearing it I’d say this was an absolute bargain!
